Natural Black woman enjoying cup of tea and book relxaing, self-care RootMama
Have you ever thought of self-care as “extra” special things to do like massages and pedicures? Many think of self-care activities like something that needed to be done apart from the everyday routine of life.

Special things like massages and pedicures are definitely a part of self-care, however, daily self-care is what will keep you alive and functioning at optimal levels. Self-care is the moment by moment decisions that are made to nourish yourself, mind, body and Spirit.
Daily self-care is important because you pour into yourself all the things that you need to thrive and be of service to others in your life.
The five pillars of self-care are good sleep, superb nutrition, adequate hydration, consistent movement and exposure to the Sun.

Without these inputs, the human body struggles to function. Disease sets in. Confusion, depression, anxiety and fatigue take root. I have a special message for you. “You’re not broken.” If you feel mentally or emotionally unstable, or, if you feel chronically sick and fatigued, it’s not that something is wrong with you. It’s that one or more of the pillars of self-care are not in place.

Every time you take a drink of water, you’re showing yourself that you love you. When you take the time to prepare a healthy meal, you’re telling yourself and showing yourself how much you love you. When you choose to observe negative chatter in your head, and replace it with uplifting affirmation, you’re actively choosing to love on you.

It’s the daily actions that build up to make you strong. In this case, it really is the little things that count.
