When Beyoncé dropped the informational bomb that she was pregnant – and with TWINS, we were like yay! We have been so happy for her, Jay-Z and Blue Ivy that they are expanding their family.
Soon after her announcemennt, the negative nancy comments began to started rolling in on social media. “She will have to get a c-section.” “She will deliver early.” Let me just say, those are common misunderstandings about twin pregnancies. The belief that you can't go to full-term with your pregnancy is a limiting belief. A limiting belief is a belief that dwells in the subconscious and has a limiting effect on what a person is able to achieve. For example, when you believe that you’ll fail at learning a new language because “language just isn’t your thing.”
You’ll more than likely never even try to learn a new language, or if you do try, you’ll put in minimal energy. Deep down, you don’t believe you can do it. You’ve adopted a stance – that languages are not my thing. You can never accomplish more than what you think or believe about yourself. We have to reclaim our legacy as midwives and the narrative of the granny midwife of the rural south.
My heritage runs deep. Before my roots reach the rich soils of Africa, they run through rural Arkansas on my maternal side. At RootMama we celebrate Black heritage, culture and history every day, all day. And we’re still happy to see a special emphasis on Black heritage during the month of February from the greater community. I've never met a mother in her final weeks of pregnancy that was not uncomfortable and ready to give birth. Well, I take that back. I do remember meeting a mom or two that just basked in the final weeks of pregnancy, but that is definitely not the norm!
As your baby grows, she is happily karate chopping your internal organs. She dances on your bowels and bladder and lovingly turns kart wheels into your ribs. It seems like your baby is running out of room. Oh the joy of motherhood! |
